TIDEWATER CLASSICAL SYMPOSIUM
LATIN DAY
The Tidewater Classical Symposium's 10th annual 2016 Latin Day was an Olympic victory!
Thank you to the forty students, parents, and chaperones who made Latin Day another great event!
Our theme was the Olympics and began Latin Day with a great lecture about the ancient Olympic games by Professor Holland of William and Mary.
Students participated in a wide variety of afternoon sessions including silly olympics, mythology in art, and vase painting.
The day ended with Commodity Wars and awards which included costume contest awards.

The Tidewater Classical Symposium's 9th annual 2015 Latin Day was again a great success!
Thank you all of you who attended and participated!
The 2015 Latin Day held at Christopher Newport University and hosted by the CNU Classics Club started out with a fascinating introduction to Pompeiian grafitti shared by Rebecca Benefiel from Washington and Lee University.
This fantastic talk was followed by the academic tests. In addition to the Latin exams this year, students had the option to take a Classical Civilizations test. There was a lot of interest in this new test and the students who took it did very well!
After a delicious lunch of pizza and cookies students moved to the break-out sessions that they had signed up for at registration.
The 9th annual Tidewater Classical Symposium's Latin Day concluded with a lecture on modern archaeology in the region and with the academic/artistic awards.
The Tidewater Classical Symposium's 2014 Latin Day was a great success!
Thank you all of you who attended and participated!
At the 2014 Latin Day held at Christopher Newport University students learned about medicine in the Ancient World and experienced a journey through the Roman Empire of the 1st century C.E. with Mark Nucap, a Syrian archer in the Roman Auxiliaries.
After competing in an academic exam students attended various activities ranging from cookie numismatics to Hunger Games connections to a mythology quiz bowl.
The arts and crafts competition was a great success too! Some students displayed their monster amalgamation posters, others displayed swords and military standards!
